Syracuse’s Local Salt Industry: Tales of Sunken Ships, Solar Technology and Albany Politics
Dr. William Meyer, a professor of geography at Colgate University will discuss the solar technology used in the 19th century to make Onondaga salt.
Additionally, he will explain how New York State politics and United State’s economic and foreign policy in the 1800’s impacted the local salt industry, eventually pushing it into oblivion by 1926.
